Sign Up Agreement/Terms and Conditions
Welcome to the OPGO WEB SITE the site of the The Organisation of Professional Gas Operatives (OPGO).
Terms and Conditions
I agree to the following:
1) To treat other site users with respect - so no bullying, harassment, personal attacks and offensive language aimed at any individual member or group of members.
2) To respect the decisions of the moderators
3) To recognise and bear in mind that the site may contain users who are of various nationalities, colour, ages, culture, sex, sexual orientation, political views and religion.
4) Not to break the law in what you post on the site - eg racist or homophobic comments, slanderous or libellous comments, or with regard to copyright.
5) To respect the privacy of other site users, in respect of divulging personal information about users or their posts outside of the site.
6) To respect the intentions of the person who has started a thread, and not to post off-topic. Treat the thread starter as if they are the Chairman of that thread.
7) Not to personalise differences of opinion.
8) To follow the guidelines for use of logo, and requirements for claiming OPGO Membership, and use of Logo as stated in the Use of Logo Agreement.
Registration on Our Site
When you register on the site you must give your full name, home address, contact details and Gas Safe Register Licence card no. (if you have one), to verify you are who say you are, before your account is activated. These personal details are only visible to site admins. Although you are encouraged to use your real name, you may choose a username other than your real name, and you can ask the site admin to change your username at any time. When you register you have the option of providing some additional information such as location, interests, and homepage URL. This information is made available to other site users to foster a sense of community. It is optional so you may leave the fields blank.
Copyright material
Your contributions: We have a Community Licence for reproduction of work on the site. Copyright of original work remains with the poster, but you will be expected to allow other users rights of reproduction if they wish, though they must ask the poster for permission and credit them for it if they copy your work and post outside of the site.
The work of others: You can usually post web links through to photos, to 'embed' in the page without a problem, but must not upload copyright material as attachments onto the site. Copyright material may be removed or deleted from the site, and offenders may have the right to upload attachments removed. Everything you see on the internet should be regarded as being copyright protected, regardless of whether there is a copyright notice or symbol on the page or site.
Moderating
Moderators are able to delete/split and move posts, and to temporarily remove posting rights. If they edit a post they will be expected to send a copy of the original post, along with an explanation of their actions. Appeals can be made to the moderator group, which includes the Site Admin(s), and a further appeal will be possible to the Committee for adjudication. Moderators will rely on users being prepared to report posts to them should they see anything that breaks these Terms and Conditions. Please only report posts that you find personally offensive, not posts that you think others might find offensive.
Moderating your own posts
Consider your post before you click the 'Submit' button. You currently have one hour from posting to edit your own posts. Should you wish to edit the post after this time please click the 'Report' button. Swearing should be used in moderation, and best kept in the OPGO Pub, OPGO's social area.
Libel and Slander
Posting on a Bulletin Board is a bit like chatting in the pub, there is some give and take in what is posted. Although part of the site is 'private', anything you post, put down in a email or PM is legally in the public domain. Anything you post is your opinion. All forum users are legally bound not to post libellous or slanderous comments about other users or to those outside the forum, and to 'report' such comments to the Moderators or Forum Admins. Libel and slander are two different versions of defamation which has acquired a range of different meanings legally, but can be thought of generally as a statement which 'must tend to lower the standing of a person in the estimation of right-thinking members of society'.
Banning and Suspension
Only the Committee can ban a site user (remove posting and reading rights) or deactivate an account pending a full and fair disciplinary hearing, as stipulated in the Organisation Rules.
